Puerto Vallarta Airport Facts

The current layout at the Puerto Vallarta Airport is not effective because there are too many flights that arrive within hours of one another. Therefore, the airport becomes packed with travelers waiting in long lines as they make their way through immigration, customs, and baggage claim. Tourism experts are estimating that the amount of visitors coming to Puerto Vallarta via plane will drastically increase in the future, which is why the expansion will provide visitors with a more positive experience. The Puerto Vallarta Airport’s new terminal is expected to cost around 7 billion pesos, and once complete it will be able to handle double the visitors it currently can accommodate. They will be adding new
boarding gates and departure gates as well.

Puerto Vallarta Airport New Terminal Facts

Approximately 68,000 square meters will be added to the airport with the new terminal, which means a growth of 150 percent in overall space. The completion of the new terminal will allow the airport to accommodate up to 12 million arrivals per year. Also, there will be approximately up to 19 boarding gates and up to 16 remote boarding gates added as well. In addition, they are redesigning the customs and immigration process as well. For example, approximately up to 58 documentation counters will be added and up to 18 lines for security filters added. They will be increasing up to 30 migration modules, too. They plan on adding luggage scanning, which means the luggage will be scanned before the passengers arrive at the airport. All these changes will help establish a more efficient airport arrival system that will create a more favorable travel experience for visitors, too.

Puerto Vallarta Airport Zero Energy Airport

Finally, an important part of the new terminal being added at the Puerto Vallarta Airport is that the design and features that will be added will make the PVR airport the first Zero Energy Airport in Mexico. This means that the airport will have the ability to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and pollutants which will help protect the environment. Within 7.5 years, the airport will also add solar panels to the roof, which will lower approximately 40 percent of energy costs and consumption. Also, efficient water management practices will be implemented in order to reuse 100 percent of the blue, black, and gray water that comes in and out of the terminal. Also, geothermal batteries will be added to the design, which will help in reducing air conditioning usage, too. As you can see, Puerto Vallarta will be one of the world’s leading tourist destinations for years to come.

There are many exciting changes going on now at the Puerto Vallarta Airport. Once the first stage of the new terminal is completed, there will be an additional 68,000 square meters of space where they can add new restaurants, bars, and shops.
