What No one tells you about Timeshare Scams

What makes a timeshare offer a scam opportunity? Many people make the mistake of claiming timeshare fraud in cases of misunderstandings about details in the contract. However, if your timeshare option proved to be the best fit for you, then you made a good choice. It’s when people encounter situations dealing with re-selling timeshare memberships, unclear offers from overzealous sales agents and cancellation services that scams tend to become more plausible.

Timeshare scams or that you don’t want to pay maintenance fees?

Maintenance fees can make people think they have been scammed concerning their timeshare membership. This is because many fail to read the maintenance fee disclosure that is written in their contract. Those who report the timeshare company for failure to tell them about the maintenance fees may be telling the truth in some cases, but that still does not omit the fact that the details of the fees are included in any timeshare contract a person signs when buying a timeshare. Also, we have to remember that maintenance is an important part of maintaining a satisfactory living condition of the timeshare property.

Did timeshare sellers really lie to you?

The chances of receiving false promises from a salesperson at the resort are minimal if you go to a presentation at an established resort. And even if you are at an established resort, you can always see a superior employee if you feel the information being given is questionable. As a salesman, the presenter is supposed to present the product in such a way that it amazes you. Most people are fortunate to be at a presentation worth the investment. Either way, just make sure that you stay focused while at the presentation and don’t get caught up in the moment of pressure sales tactics. Be mindful of how much you are willing to spend, and stick with that. If you want to upgrade after realizing you can afford to do so, you can at any time during your membership.

Who are the real timeshare scammers?

Thanks to tougher regulations concerning timeshare business practices, many people are safe from timeshare scams when attending a legitimate timeshare presentation. However, there are still some timeshare scams out there like:

Unaffiliated Timeshare sellers – A salesman wanting you to close the deal away from the resort where you had the presentation may be a scam.

Second hand timeshare scam – A secondhand timeshare membership is bought, but you realize there is a year or less time left on the membership (or the membership did not exist at all). If the membership does exist, you have to pay a lot to catch up on the maintenance fees.

Timeshare Cancellation and Refund Scams – Your membership is binding and can’t be cancelled. A company promising to get you out your membership for a fee will end up causing you to suffer a loan default because you stopped paying membership fees on a contract that could not be cancelled.
